By the late nineteenth, Native Americans were considered to be a “vanishing race,” doomed to extinction and yet here in the second decade of the twenty-first century, Native Americans are increasingly visible in American society and culture. This lecture will highlight the major milestones of this journey, from the massacre at Wounded Knee through to the current debates about treaty rights, economic development, and cultural representation and appropriation.
The lecture will be held in English.
